Consider adding a section in electronics for Vexilar? It's the one main manufacturer that's missing. Vexilar is way too good to be discussed under "other" electronics haha!

You want a section for the Betamax and the Motorola brick phone too?

    Zing!

Vex's are fun to watch anywhere near a Marcum. Actually, it's the Vex OWNERS that are the funny ones to watch. They often just get frustrated and turn them off because of all the interference.

Whoa whoa whoa boys. Vexilar are great units. I fish with a couple guys that have them and they've never had a single problem with them.
Oh Marcum this oh marcum that, why the hell is my marcum on fire?

Not saying they aren't great units but what have they done to improve them selves?

Sidetracked.... In the interest of the forum, it should be added IMO. They are a major player in the ice market. Full disclosure, I had a hondex, and a sitex.

Done to improve? There's the mistake, not everything needs to be improved.

Guys buy the most basic of a brand. FL-8 or LX-3 and wonder why it doesn't preform like a FL-22 or LX-7.

What did you find wrong with your Vex?

Interesting. I'll pay more attention when we go in a couple weeks, but I've never seen any lag on a mechanical flasher but like I said I'll pay more attention now.

I'm just poking fun at my buddies with Vex's that can't use them when they fish beside my lx5...

Hmm. But wouldn't that make the LX-5 the problem?

The problem with fishing with a Marcum guy is the Marcum guy needs to crank his gain up to read anything. The more gain, obviously, the stronger the signal. "Woohoo! 2500 watts of power, boys!" Hence the interference on other units, as well as the issue of scaring the fish away. Those saucer-sized ducers really pound sound down the water column. It's best if Marcum users fish alone in their own tent. :p

Sorry but your wrong on all your statements. I fish with folks with all the brands...............................no issues. If your cranking up the gain too much then our out of the cone.

I had a FL8 nothing wrong with it.

Must have missed the :p My statements were tongue in cheek, or just poking fun.
I own one unit from all three brands. VX-1, 597CI HD, and FLx-28. Family fishing, I use one and my sons use the other two. My usual partners both own a vex, fl8 and fl18. Another guy had an ICE45 and hated the noisy thing with a passion. Sold it and bought the lx-5. All units play well together, at least for us. You are correct about the cone angle. Sometimes this happens on the Red, or somewhere else that may be heavy current. It can be tough to guess exactly where to drill the flasher holes relative to the one for fishing, and fit them all inside the shack!

Haha i have all 3 brands. My vex is a fl-18, and its the only unit that has been trouble free for 8 years i have had. I have seen many a fisherman (including myself) lose a day or a trip due to other units having issues. When that happens, they are all more than happy to use my vex. In fact, one guy has had to use it three times as his unit crapped out each time.
    Thats NOT second hand info.
But yes, they do not play well with Marcums.

My gain is never over 2 on my Marcum, so I'm not one of the guys cranking it up. Humminbirds have no problem beside me in the tent.

The FLX-28 is a fairly large improvement in terms of features over some of their older units.

Also, like Inmate said, not everything needs to be improved...in terms of a mechanical flasher, the FL-8 is solid.

Speaking of improvements, didn't Marcum put a new motor in their LX-5 units a couple years ago....how's that been working out for them so far?

Anyway, everyone loves the brand of flasher they currently own...I've owned a Vex, I've owned an LX-5 and LX-6, and a Humminbird....I've sold them all and kept my Ice 45. But that being said, I regret getting rid of my FL-8 as a back up.
