I’ve been starting to look around for some winter reading material and I see there have been a couple threads in the past but they’ve died out

Who’s got suggestions for the informative and interesting??

@Ernie any chance of getting this pinned if we can get it going?

I’m trying to build a little library at home for these types of fishing reference books. If you look on Amazon, you can pick up used copies for ridiculously cheap (except for Muskies on the Shield). Here’s what I’ve got so far, all of which I’d recommend:

    - Infisherman Bass Handbook of Strategies
    - Infisherman Walleye Handbook of Strategies
    - Infisherman Pike Handbook of Strategies
    - Infisherman Crappie Handbook of Strategies
    - Infisherman Walleye Critical Concepts Series (1-5)
    - Muskies on the Shield
    - Smallmouth Bass by Dick Sternberg (haven’t read this one yet. Just ordered it on @Mike B. ’s recommendation in another thread)

Also, can’t forget the Freshwater Fish of Manitoba book. That’s a solid reference guide for a bunch of things.

Great idea for a thread. I'd like to see more posts of favorite books.

It would be nice to have them all in one place instead of cross searching 4 threads to get a list together

I think that's an awesome idea.

What say I create a section in The coffee Shop named "Fishing Reading Material" and move all threads I find in there?

    This is a great section!

Great to see that paper is still sought after. Completely agree with the comments about online being too much of an ad, or I find that I have to click past so much unrelated stuff it makes me lose interest in the original info I was looking for.

I'll read through a 20-30 yr old species-specific book over and again. Things like spawning temps, seasonal movements, structure preference.....that's all the best info for fishing knowledge....the "here's what rod I fluked this big fish on while fishing a different species" has gotten out of hand.....the blogs are primarily fish stories.....and, honestly, I couldn't care less about a single fish someone caught...I wanna learn more about the target species.

The Handbook of Strategies are my fave books.

The most interesting thing I've ever read in a fishing book was the classifications of water-bodies. From Oligotrophic lakes to resevoirs and impoundments. The species each tends to contain and generalities on how/when to fish them. One thing that stuck with me when I 1st got into Crappies--the part in the Crappie Wisdom/Handbook that stated that typically, resevoirs and impoundments are tougher to fish in Fall coldwater period....a la Minnewasta

The only Critical Concept I found for a decent price was #4. The hunt continues.
