In stead of filling up the big buck thread I'll ask here how long should I wait before hunting that area again? Wanting to get back at it on Thursday. Is that enough time. And when I do get back in there hunting should I just sit and wait or rattle as I was before this happened cause the spiker and him came in half hour after I rattled

Do the same as you were doing - deer will be moving lots, i would bet this weekend when the weather does a dramatic flip, you maybsee a flurry of movement prior to that.
Bucks are moving. Just wait and be ready!
Trust me, your experience from earlier this week will absolutely make you a better hunter - it is almost a harsh initiation. The rotten feelings you had because of this will shape your hunting/shooting decisions forever.
But - in a good way! As mentioned, stay away from hero shots and go for the lungs - regardless of bullet performance, any hole in the lungs is lethal.
Get back in the saddle and go get ‘em!

On another note, with shooting - practise practise practise! And never, ever, ever take a freehand shot - use a rest! Freehand shots set you up for what you just went thru....

It shouldn't matter if you go back to the same area again. Even if a buck is taken from the area, other bucks will move in quickly to take over his run, especially if there is a hot doe around. Personally, I wouldn't put all my apples in the same basket and hunt the same spot all the time. IMO, there is a lot more to be learned from moving around and finding new areas and spots, signs, travel routes, terrain funnels, etc. Then again, sitting for an hour or two maximum is about the limits of my patience. As for rattling, I think it has it's time and place in early pre- rut season but not now when we are quickly approaching full rut. In my experiences, rattling will attract more smaller bucks and might even scare the bigger ones from coming in, or at least coming in naturally.

IMO, if your gonna rattle, this is the week.... without a doubt the last week of muzzle has always been the best action/response from bigger deer to the antlers...

shoot for the exit and go kill a buck Spoon!!!

I was laying into the rattle bag hard about once an hour last weekend. Not sure if the bucks came in because of the rattling or not but had 2 bucks in the opening at the same time altho one was a spiker both came out on the same side of the field/ opening

If this were early season, archery, and you were targeting a specific buck, I’d say give it a break for at least a few days to a week. But that’s not the case here. The bucks are starting to cruise and they don’t know what went on there yesterday. If you are in a good cruising, spot, you will start seeing bucks every day. Actually maybe not every day in this heat, but they will be cruising/searching.
With this warm air, your mornings in particular will be your best chance, but once we drop back down to normal, dress warm and sit. You’ll get your buck.
