On this round of spoons stupid questions. What's a 5 year old lx5 worth? Will have the motor replaced before posting for sale as the bottom was moving on me last year. Just curious to see what it's worth before deciding to sell and go to something else

Have you checked Kijiji and eBay?

What’s the plan for an upgrade?

Not sure yet. Not a Marcum that's for sure. Love the unit but hate having to fix it every 2-3 years

Just moving to a different brand flasher or wanting to move to something “live”?

Haven't really seen a vex in action. Bet definitely like the display more than the birds flashers.

Can’t speak for any of the newer vex’s but my fl-18 has been near flawless in 14 years. Had to replace ducer but that was my fault. I wouldn’t consider another brand if I was in the market.

You can see the pectoral fins on a crappie start to flutter as it gets excited about your bait.....on a vex.

You must have got a lemon bud. I had an LX2 (like a VX-1) for many years bought new around 2006-07 and then bought a used first generation LX5 from a friend for $250 during the summer months years ago. The LX2 was still working great when I sold it a couple years ago and my LX5 has been great without a hiccup. I think I've likely had the LX5 at least 10 years and it was already used for at least a couple before that. My buddies expensive tranducer on his FL20 crapped out last year so I guess each brand can have issues. That said, Vexilar was the first color flasher and from what I've heard are generally pretty bullet proof. If I was to upgrade I might think about an FLx-28.

From what I know the older LX units are bullet proof the newer ones not so much...

I bought my LX5 usef 7 years ago. It's put many miles and hours on it. No issues at all.
Daughter has had an LX5 for 5 years. No issues and still going strong. SIL has had his LX7 for 3 years. Not a hiccup.
Many times (in fact most times) we fish in the same tent/shack. Interference is minimal. Easily adjustable.

My Marcum LX5 is also 7 years old. After the first season, they replaced the motor under warranty and it has not had a problem since. In fishing the same tent with a bird, there was interference but the Marcum has adjustment levels that were easily adjusted to compensate.

I think it'd be a mistake to invest in anything that cant be turned into a portable summer unit, or put on a future boat. little elite 4 i still use even tho i have a 7ti i could set up on the same mount for winter . marks fish just fine and i can even tell when they are stuck to bottom.
flashers are a ton of money now to use for 3 months of the year..

Could it be the way you are treating/maintaining the unit? Lemons are possible but if its giving you problems every couple years maybe it needs to be treated better

This is the second time the motor/ brushes have to be replaced.
