Ive never needed the lock feature cause of the softer rods I use as a deadstick but like how the rod is easy to get out/ sit higher. Almost ordered the JT rod holder to try when I ordered my snare

    2 options then,

Tape them up or take the nut/bolt out and remove the lock piece.
That’s what I’ve done to all of mine

Mine just have elastic bands from some minnow bags on them. Just twist it around a few times good enough.

Or the rod. Just don't leave them on for longer than 4 hours. If you forget them on for longer than that then seek medical help immediately or else you may lose your rod or it may suffer permanent damage like always being too soft.

I'm with kraken on that. I hate that locking shpeel.

O take it right apart and chuck it all in the garbage. I've got 4 of those holders with tags still on i haven't taken apart yet. If you're passing thru I could take it all apart put it in a bag and throw it at you

Use an elastic band. If necessary cut one and tie it to the length required. I had the same thing happen to mine.

I don't know why you guys hate them so much. I've had a rod and reel go down the hole before I got the locking rod holders so nice to have a bit of insurance at least on the dead stick rods.

Those rod holders are the only ones I have not seen fail yet on the ice. They ain't pretty but that rod ain't making it down the hole.

And ffs Spoon,,,its a rubber band! Find a rubber band store! Jesus.

Curbside pick up. You pull up and roll down your window. A grade six kid shoots you in the face with a rubber band from the store front.

Find a young girl with pigtails and ask her if you can have her elastic. Voila.

Short answer-- cuz they suck ass

Way too clunky to mess around with unlocking the thing, rather than picking it and setting the hook. Also, the line tends to catch in the 'workings' of that lock thingy...'ve lost fish cuz my line was pinched in there...ended up trying to fight a fish with the rod stuck in the holder....not ideal.

I like the ones that the rod balances on and has a groove for the reel arm to slide into if a fish does a smash and grab. You won't lose a rod/reel with those and I can lift it straight up with no extra step, and there's nothing for the line to catch on.

I like the locking especially for a dead stick rod which is the one likely to go down the hole when unattended. I haven't lost a fish yet because of the holder but because of other stuff. I have had the odd line in the nut but I usually try and be mindful of that. Trade off I guess. I have the one with the groove too. They all have a time and place. The locking holders were great for the kids when they were younger of newbies who'd just leave the rod in the snow otherwise. A little insurance on my equipment.

I’ve lost fish trying to get the rod out of the holder once it “locked in” and so far have never come back and found the rod locked in and the holder keeping it from being pulled down the hole
