Helping a friend buy a boat after selling his tiller last fall. I’m kind of going through the process with him and I don’t know if I have ever experienced seeing a frenzy like this before. Boats sold in minutes, he has even offered some more than asking. The MB quarantine does present a little challenge for grabbing out of province boats but still an option. I always know a ball park of what boat prices are going for just because I love looking at boats but really didn’t know how much these used boats are going for until I really dove in this spring. I think many of you may be surprised what has increased and by how much. If you know anybody pre-selling and knows there price and wants a hassle free sale shoot me a Pm please. No need to send kijjii ads or anything like that. Although it’s appreciated he’s all over that from Alberta to Thunder Bay and on all the facecrack marketplace stuff. His criteria is pretty open too.

    -price range $20-30k
    -16’-18’
    -any major brand
    -must have a wheel
    -in very good shape
    -alum/outboard (anything except etec)
    Cheers

Seems to be the way people are going. Just bought some gym equipment through the pandemic which was also insane and I probably really missed out not having that platform to look on. But kijjji still got it done.

I tell you for sure you’ll sell faster on FB. I’ve tried both and FB mucho better.

Some of the things I've posted in the last year or so, the responses to ads have been up to 20:1...30:1...or more in favor of Marketplace. Kijiji is a dying world....

Sorry to add to the thread hijack Neil!

I'll agree to this ratio, yet my sales have been 75% in favor of Kijiji being where the buyer ends up coming from... strange for sure.

Anytime Stevie, nice to see you around! Hope all is well.

Thanks for all the messages guys. My friend made a deal today, the Emt of faith was sent and he’s bringing it to the mb/sk border soon. He picked up a 2019 alumacraft comp 165 with a yammy 90. Pretty bare bones, helix 7, minnkota 70lb. Grabbed it just North of $31k
Used 4 times apparently. Got a quote new for 43k taxes in. I think he did quite well if it works out.

That's great news Neil. I would say that's a good deal for your friend and can't see that going lower even if we weren't in this pandemic.

Too bad I hadn't seen this sooner. I have a buddy selling an 18' Sylvan with a 135 Suzuki that has very, very few hours. I don't think it's seen the water in the last 5 years minimum. Has a bimini top, scotty electric downriggers etc. He's asking $27,000.

Now to start to help him rig. Looking for a lowrance to run AEM. 9 or 10” screen. He missed out on the sale Rob posted which would have been ideal but he just wasn’t ready yet. Anybody upgrading or any good deals you see please pass along. Cheers

I should add he’s just getting back into fishing since growing up in the whiteshell as a kid when fishing was very different. I think something that has 2d/structure/di. Won’t be getting into any live tech anytime soon. Just the basic 3 with good bang for his buck.

@Neil - given what you just said, it would probably be worth looking into a Hook Reveal 9 with HDI transducer....the only thing I don't like about it is that it is not touchscreen. There are a few sales out there on these units, plus Lowrance just announced a rebate promotion on the Reveal units.

Touch screen will be irrelevant to him. But just don’t want to recommend something that has big lag with your mapping. I told him there would be lots of great used stuff from guys upgrading. To be honest I don’t pay attention much to the lowrance banter so my knowledge is minimal but thought guys were complaining about that with the hooks? He has his boat and tearing down and rebuilding the cottage this fall so funds are tight. Wants to keep it under $1000 unless really good bang for your buck. So this hook would be a contender.

The original Hook series units are like 6 years old now, they are showing their age IMO and are not quick to display high-detail maps. Hook Reveal series is a HUGE step up from the original Hook.

Don't get the tripleshot version - you are paying for sidescan and it sounds like he doesn't need it. Get the one with the HDI and he'll be a happy camper.

Ok, good to know Craig. But I think it’s best to get him a unit with 2d/di/ss. To me these are now fundamentals in fishing and he will need to get acquainted with. He is a huge tech guy and always had the latest and greatest with video and audio equipment but literally knows nothing about fishing tech. I think I would be a disservice to him if I didn’t include structure scan.

Ah my bad. I misread that part in your original post. Hold out for a used Elite Ti2 9” with AI 3in1 then in that case.

Have him Sail.ca in the coming weeks. They had a ridiculous price of $580 for a Ti2 with AI 3-in-1 a while back. They’re back up to regular price now.

He just grabbed the last sealed unit from Cabelas Saskatoon of the 9" elite Ti2 for $799. Let the rigging begin.

Good for him. Cabelas Winnipeg and .ca said more are on the way after the sale is over and they don't give rainchecks or pay now and pick up later. That's too bad. Just did that at Lowes today. Paid in store the sale price. Will pick up later this month when they get stock. Some companies want your business; others not so much.
