Ordered one, Holy Shit this forum is expensive. Now to go back and read all the set-up threads. Figuring out how to set-up should help make October and November go by faster. Excited to do a temp set-up on the boat before it gets stored for winter.

 

That's a wicked good price. There's chatter again about the most recent round of price discounts and that an announcement of new sonars and an updated Active Target is pending. It's been rumoured before though with previous price cuts/rebates, so I'm not making a prediction.

@washing hooks - You'll like live sonar, and ice fishing won't be the same. What pole system are you getting?

 

@glennie_rapala Not sure what pole system yet. I will read a few threads and end up asking for some input I'm sure. Are there any that don't work for both ice and open water?

Not sure any retailers are doing this yet. It does add fuel to the Active Target update fire.

The Fishing Specialties pole is what I use for both summer and winter. I also used the Rytek adjustable transducer mount. I highly recommend both. Lowrance recently announced their own AT pole which is collapsible, so it should be a better option for the ice and portability. I use the Summit shuttle and bag for the module and 30 AH Amped lithium battery. No issues there, though others have said the 3D printed plastic shuttle is prone to breakage.

 

I was just reading your post about the Rytek adjustable transducer mount. I like the idea of quickly switching between ducer modes/views but I don't like that price!

 

The price is the downside for sure. Quality kit though. Ryan from Rytek is super accommodating with customizing his mounts for the different pole setups.

 

Lots of great info in here and lots of option out there for mount set ups, almost too many really.

Best advice I can give you is pick the best one for the way you fish, summer and winter, the size of auger you run and if shaft mounting to your bow mount is an option. This should help narrow things down a bit and also help filter out some of the info that won't pertain to your style of fishing.

 

Both open water and ice season is mostly Walleye, some trout fishing in the ducks and a little (not enough) Laker fishing. Technique wise is pretty basic. Mostly jigging and trolling. With some fan casting and retrieving while hopping along bottom once I find some good signs while trolling or searching with sonar. I'm still a fishing rookie so I will be trying a lot of new things and see where success and failure takes me.

 

Going to have to wait till they are more affordable before I delve into this stuff.

Gord we're not getting any younger so don't put it off too long. I've had my first open water season using Active Target and have been so impressed. For certain situations live imaging is killer. Last weekend I could watch suspended crappie and targeted the larger fish and watch how they react to my presentation. Too fun.

 

Yep I remember thinking that I'd never get a carbon, but eventually I did.
