The gold chip in head unit bundles may only work on certain models. Unlike when you just out right buy a chip. Glennie_Rapala had that issue not too long ago when trying to sell his nav chip that came in a combo. Basically when selling the chip, it may not work in other peoples head units unless they have the exact same head unit model.

True story. Lowrance programs their CHIRP/Navionics Gold cards to only work with other CHIRP units. They won't even work with other non-CHIRP Elites.

A few people have been asking us about 2016 digital coverage of Shoal Lake. Our "stock" print maps cover Clytie + Bag bays, and North of Cash Island.....our digital versions cover more than that. I suspect you could spend the better part of the summer on what we've mapped so far, and not get bored of it. The rest of the lake is still a work in progress....it is a big one, with a ridiculous amount of structure. We will continue to chip away at it.

And for you guys that have purchased chips already, if you win the contest we will work something out. Free block mount of your favourite lake perhaps?

This may have been asked before, perhaps even by me.... But will these chips work on an Elite 5 DSI unit?

Benny, we CAN make chips that are compatible with the original Elite units; this isn't a standard option though as unfortunately the older Elite units can't accept anything larger than a 2gb SD card and we are using 4gb cards. We do have some stock of the smaller cards at the moment, so a customer would have to email us directly if interested to get one of these made up as a special order. This is a good reminder for me to add a note to our website to that effect.

Might be a good reason to upgrade that unit. It's been good, but it's always left me wanting slightly.

The 2 GB card would still work on any of the newer Lowrance units. No difference in functionality. Like Rob said, just let us know.

Apologies if this has been covered. Can the depth maps offset for fluctuating water levels

How does it work dividing a map on 2 cards versus 1 card? Does it show for example the north half of the lake on card 1 and the south half of the lake on card 2?

Trying to get an idea how often I'd be changing cards...

Inmate: no, they can't. We thought about including offsets, but after getting a few opinions of other anglers....we decided not to pursue. I basically do high/low water offsets in my head after comparing map to sonar once I am on the water, and apparently so do most others. If it turns out that people are interested in this feature, we can consider it for future.

Ernie: If you buy the complete catalog, all the maps are on one card. So no switching at all!

Not sure if this has been brought up but I wanted to know if the usual hazards (Winnipeg river mainly) are indicated on the maps?

I believe the 2016 catalog is ~ 200 MB....the maps are vector based, which allows you to cram a ton of data into not much memory.

@Cheebers , our official position is that our maps are for angling and not to be used for navigation. So we don't label channel markers, or use rock "icons"....we have disclaimers that go into more detail. That being said our surveys are very intensive, and our georeferncing is accurate, and reefs and shallow water that a boater would best avoid jump out at you after you've had a chance to use our maps for a few minutes. I'll post a couple screenshots of sharky's channel tonight to highlight.

I should also clarify that our navigation disclaimer is not unique to us, pretty much all digital maps state that only government paper charts are suitable for navigation, officially.

Thanks for the detailed response, @craigm. There are many rocks to avoid in that stretch of Winnipeg River. Either way, I'm going to pick up the full catalogue as these maps look amazing!

Ok, here is a section of Sharky's Channel on the Winnipeg River, where an old wing dam extends from the western "shoreline" (its actually a large island), to a small bedrock island 2/3rds of the way accross the narrow channel. The correct way to move through this area is east of the island, and I feel this is very intuitive with our maps. Avoid the dark red areas while in transit. Target them with shallow divers when casting. :)
