If it was later in the year I'd be looking at picking something like that up.. looks like not a bad setup..

Great boat. Not for big water but I ran it for years no problem. 30hp could really move it too.

Thought about a jon boat ?
Seen a post , 11mph up the red river and 15-17 down current with only a 5hp merc & alumacraft 1426 light.

Unfortunately, quite likely to be the opposite. Prices start climbing now and plateau in summer. Best time to buy is typically Fall.

That said, good deals do pop up at anytime throughout the year. You just have to be prepared to buy with cash in hand on a moments notice, because they do sell really fast.

Sorry for going off topic Inmate!

No worries! It's a good tutorial for people that may not have a boat.

I owned a jon boat, wasn't for me.

    I'm not paying $4000 for a 14' tinner. That I know

There's a few out there for $800-$1500 with no motor. That's where I see myself buying one.

Jon boats are made for skinny water....I have used a few jon boats for work (*shudder*), and I think you should avoid them like the plague if your primary use is going to be fishing lakes (even small ones). Jon boats are no fun if there is any sort of wind to deal with.

As for used boat prices in general.....its crazy in general, but there are deals out there. We wanted to add one to the AEM fleet last spring, and jumped on the opportunity for a used Lund A14 for $1000 in Kenora. Lund A14s are a nice balance between price, weight, useable space, hull gauge/integrity, and stability...hence why we now have 3 of them. We are pretty hard on them, taking them on bigger water than we should in rougher conditions than we should be out in....hammering reef's with hull on occasion at nearly full throttle....and we have had no issues. Throw a 15 Hp on them, and they will get you up on plane and where you need to go, even with 2-3 adults, or 2 adults and a load of camping gear (experience).

That northwood looks like it's been in the red for a good decade :flushed:

The longer I look for a "cheap tinner" the closer I get to saying time to increase the budget and get something that's a step up and will last me longer. I completely agree with you @Inmate about the 4k tinners.... pretty discouraging.

Crap. That one would be sweet, I'd give away the trailer and head home. Too bad the distance is so far.

If you don't buy one, I have a 12 footer that you can use anytime.
