    Hey guys,

After an open water season packed full of surveying, @craigm and I are looking forward to the 2017 model year. We've got some great new content coming that will be available on the 2017 Digital Map chips exclusively for your Lowrance sonar. These will become available in the spring, exact launch date TBD. For now as we finish up with each lake on the computer we'll use this thread to post previews of them. Block mounted versions of these will be available immediately.

First up - Betula Lake! Should be a nice addition to the Whiteshell chip.

Great stuff, looking forwards to upgrading to the new catelogue. Hopefully its still an option ;)

Interesting that you did Betula, consider its a predominantly a ski/wakeboard lake. I'm guessing you doing all the North Whiteshell?

Upgrading definetly will still be an option.

As for why Betula, we didn't really see it as being a super high priority destination for anglers, but thought some cottagers might be interested in a print map of their home lake.

We're all antsy over "what's next?!" for Angler's Edge Mapping. I know I am! It's a testiment to how awesome it is to have these maps in the boat, on the ice and on the wall at the cabin. I have good friends that have had a family cabin on Betula for quite some time. I'll be letting them know they can have a printed depth chart on the wall...it'll look sweet next to my buddy's Father-in-law's 9lb Betula Walleye over the mantle. (I know it's hard to believe such a nice Walleye came from that lake....but it was long ago).

I'm super excited about several soon-to-be-released (2017) additions to AEM. New lakes mapped...it's better than Christmas!

These maps and AEM as a business is still a pretty new phenomenon. I'm confident that every angler is going to have his/her favorite water surveyed in time, but I know from talking to these guys, it's not a quick process.

Back to Betula-- while it is not considered much of a fishing lake, from my point of view, the next time I get invited there, knowing I have a map of it, I'd give it a shot. Previously, I'd trailer over to the Wpg R in search of fish, but with that map, the fish that are there, would become very vulnerable....and there are fish there.

On that note--- @craigm , did AEM survey into the river from Betula, or stick to Betula proper?

With any luck, the crappie will establish themselves into a fishable population in Betula in time like they are in the process of doing with all the other lakes upstream. (Don't everybody go sink your old boats at once!)

@Mike B. , the (Whiteshell) river section upstream of Betula is mapped as far as possible without portaging up the falls.

Totally understand where you are coming from @Bryan. Because the process is so time consuming, what we decide to map is very tough decision for us....lots of considerations to balance. Sometimes even the weather and/or flow conditions on the days we have committed to go out mapping is influential.

On that note, we might as well get the disappointment out of the way now....we didn't get around to surveying Sturgeon Falls to Slave this year....for the most part, Winnipeg River flows have been over 900 cms, which is kind of the limit for us getting up safely over Sturgeon Falls in our 14' tinners and small motors. There was a brief window where we could have made it up, but our schedule didn't allow allocating effort on the water to mapping at that time.

You mean you didn't survey the entire Sturgeon Falls hazard in a 14' tinner.....because your schedule didn't allow you die? Seems like a cop-out.... o_O

I guess the falls themselves would just be given a big red X or a greyed out zone?

In due time fellas....you've done a ton this year!

I love to watch the catalogue and company grow! I'm looking forward to exploring Nopoming and the Whiteshell with the help of AEM at my side. I've also heard rumors of newly mapped waters possibly in the 2017 and I'm hoping those come true! Keep up the awesome work fellas!

    Time for another update!

Next up, just up the road from Betula is White Lake. Much the same justification as Betula in mapping this one. It seems the toothless piranha are establishing well here, hope to get out that way this winter!

Patience grasshoppers. The next few updates are for larger water bodies = more computer prep work. Should have spaced out the first two a bit more I guess...
