Cleaning out the Rod Closet

    Getting a bit of and early jump on openwater fishing... Time to cleanout the back of the rod closet!

    After determining my starting line-up, second and third stringers, and the practice squad, these are the casualties...

    Eagle Claw – Big water - $10
    5’-6” 1pc - 20-40lb line – Xtra Heavy
    - Mainly this is a saltwater rod, used for heavy jigging, thinking maybe halibut? Can be used for big cats, maybe jigging for trout in 100’.

    Shimano Beastmaster Fightin’ Rod - $40
    - 6’-6” 1pc - 10-25lb – 3/8-2oz – Heavy
    Good pike or musky rod. Somewhat of a collector’s rod, as it made in Japan. Still a very functional rod.

    Berkley Lightning – Casting - $15
    6’-6” 2pc – 8-20lb – 1/4-3/4oz – Medium
    - Good bass rod, bottom bouncers, etc.

    Matzuo – Spinning - $10
    6’-6” 2pc – 8-14lb – 1/4-5/8oz – Medium
    - It’s labelled as a medium, but I would call it medium-light. Great for tossing light jigs, or slip floats.

    Berkley Lightning – Spinning - $15
    7’ 1pc – 4-12lb – 1/8-3/4oz – Medium
    - Good bass rod, jigging up walleye. Soft tip, slow action. Cork is slightly cracked, hence the tapped handle.

    Quantum Catalyst – Spinning - $20
    5’-3” 1pc - 6-12lb – 1/8-1/2oz – Medium
    - Crazy fun jigging rod. Shorter rod for keeping the bait closer to the boat.

    Berkley Series One – Casting - $40
    6’ 1pc - 10-20lb – 1/4-5/8oz – Medium
    - Practically brand-new. Good bottom bouncing rod, or pitching spinnerbaits into tight areas.

    Quantum Controller Combo – Casting/Trolling - $60
    7’-6” 2pc – 12-20lb – Medium
    - Combo, with Controller CN30 reel, spooled with 40lb Tuff-line. Rod is barely used. Thought it would be a good cat rod, but not quite what I was looking for.

    Lot of broken rods - Free
    - 2 Berkley lighting 2-pc rods (lower sections all good), and 1 Abu Vengeance 1-pc. Handles are all in perfect condition, some rod tips still there for repairing other rods. Or project to build an ice rod?

    Bundle up a few rods and make a deal!

    Located Oakbank, with potential delivery to North/East Kildonan, Elmwood or Transcona.
