Hello from central Alberta

    Been fishing off and on most of my 50yrs, spinning rigs with pike and trout mostly, but I did have one of those fly rod "kits". Think it was a Shakespeare, but don't quote me and it doesn't really matter. It was a "getting my feet wet" sort of thing that snowballed into tying flys and a whole other hobby...you guys know how that works lol.

    The fishing gear burned up with the holiday trailer (prairie fire) in 2005. Everything was replaced other than the fly gear...until Christmas of this year. :)

    Lovely wifey bought me what she thought was another trout fly rod. Taking it out, I thought it was a spinning rod at first and started looking into it...What the heck is a "salt water" fly rod???

    Doing some digging, this might work for pike, but too many options and not enough knowledge between my ears to set it up so it'll work.

    Welcome aboard from a fellow Albertan! 11 wt rod will be good for throwing around those magpie sized flies favoured by pike and musky fly fisherman! I have a buddy that sight fishes muskies and big pike like that in clear shallow waters and its something to witness in person.

    Bit of a haul to Olds, but have been there many times in the past as part of the AIRFT (Alberta Informal Field Target) group. Used to have our winter meets/shoots indoors at Weekend Warriors. Meet for breakfast at the Legion and then off to WW for the day. Been a while...I miss my airgun buds.

    The closest city is Camrose, about an hour south of Edmonton.
