    Howdy,

I'm getting tired of the Vexilar float system for my Lowrance on the ice and wanted to know if anyone knows where I can get a Marcum support arm?

    I have one......

But I'm not sure I want to stay with the float on my lowrance either lol. 10" helps a lot dealing with the float.

If you decide to stay with the float, I'll happily take the arm off your hands.

Just drop it in the hole. Just let out as much cable as needed.

Ok I see how that can work. I don't mind the arm tho. In fact I like using the arm.

You were tired of the float within the first 15 minutes of using it. LOL.

Same here as well. On bird and lowrance unit. Float stays on but at an angle just over the hole so the cord doesn't touch ice at all

Do you guys use the separate strain relief cable to suspend that Lowrance Ice ducer' from the float?

Strain relief cable ? No need for that silly thing LOL ( a little inside joke between BGF and I)

Yes I defiantly use a separate strain relief cable.

For transducer arms I think Aluminium is a better than steel, no rust and easier to work with, but the theory that steel will wreck the ducer or flasher, I don't think so. From what I know steel will have no different affect than Aluminium on the piezoelectric function of a transducer. If some one has a link to the theory of why steel is bad, please post it as I would like to read it.

    Thanks

I still say that for both Humminbird and Lowrance, in order to get around patents by both Marcum and Vexilar, had to find a different method to suspend their transducers. Apparently the patents for both Marcum and Vexilar state that the transducer is hung by the cable (yes one's a float and ones an arm) so in order to get around that patent issue, Humminbird and Lowrance use a second cable to suspend the transducer, they call that a "strain relief cable". While I would agree that the design supports itself to providing stain relief to the cable/transducer set up..........the question is.....is it necessary to provide strain relief? We may never know?
