Looking for a 15' and 1' or 2'. Not sure how short they make them. If anyone has some kicking around they don't need let me know before I order them.

I don't have anything networked at all so maybe a dumb question, but are they the same as PC or home internet/tv ethernet cables?

Garmin units are compatible with home network hubs and cables. They just add water-proofing to the ends for marine use. Bird, and think Lowrance, use rounded cables.

@Tony, saw this on Amazon.ca. It's a crossover cable so think it's for connecting unit to unit rather than to a hub but could be wrong. https://www.amazon.ca/000-0127-51-L...RJ3Q8&qid=1592858583&s=warehouse-deals&sr=8-1

Those Lowrance cables are such a rip-off considering what they are and how cheap you can get regular ethernet cable.

I searched for the connectors in the past but found nothing.
I'm sure you could take a $40 six footer and splice in a some cat5 afterall it's not a GigE network.

Tony, pretty sure 6’ is the shortest they make them and they’re Not available locally. I just ordered one off amazon...$46 :astonished: (but free shipping), Lowrance part number 000-0127-51 .https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B002IVD2VS?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image . You can get 1’ and 2’ NMEA cables but not Lowrance Ethernet.

You’d think that even if there was an industry standard for Ethernet for all mfg’s to use, cables would be cheaper, but when you look at NMEA cables which are standardized, they’re really no cheaper from any mfg than Lowrance Ethernet cables ...

Par for the course in electronics. It's all about the proprietary peripheral connections. By making a proprietary connector, they (the manufacturer) can ensure future revenue through huge markup of an inexpensive product.

$70 or more for an ethernet cable that costs them, very likely, less than 2 dollars to make.....put their own proprietary end on it....you're stuck paying what they charge--- par across the board...but yes, ripoff in a huge way.

You very likely could cut and splice those cables, use the exact same gauge and matching stranded, but even with the absolute best connection for low voltage (an Amp gun/VS3 with stranded beans) , you still might get collisions and errors that could cause really goofy and extremely frustrating issues on your plotter/sonar network. And, if you called into tech sup and let it slip you cut n spliced one of their cables...that would be the end of the call-- "Ok, well, replace that cable with one of our OEM cables and if the trouble persists, call us back"

Guys are cutting them without issue.
Would I, probably not. The only time I see the nessisity would be too small of a hole for feeding cable thru and no alternatives.

I just noticed, Navico (lowrance’s parent company) does sell adapter cables for their proprietary Ethernet connector to standard RJ45 - https://www.westmarine.com/buy/simrad--rj45m-ethernet-adapter-cable--15354970. Never seen that before, but you lose the waterproofing in going to standard connector so not sure it really makes sense . Also the little adapter still costs $30+...

And, you need two if you're going that route....so $60 plus your standard ethernet....they've got us either way

I cut my long ethernet cable and spliced it as I didn't want cut a large hole for that huge lowrance connector. Everything still works perfect. Those huge Lowrance connectors are a bloody pain to work with when you have to fish wires though conduit or tight places.
