I have always known the safe temperatures to store food but I learned a bit over the last many years about temperatures for keeping bait (especially salted bait) frozen and optimally preserved for longer periods of time. Believe there are also good articles online that detail optimum temperatures for storage as well, seems salted baits need to be stored colder than -24C . Thing is it's pretty tough to find residential type freezers that are able to go down that low. Several years ago when I was needing to replace our unit, wanting to go from a chest to and upright, did a lot of research oddly finding very few that fit the bill. My freezer is set pretty low......................fuck.....hard to believe that in a few months it's going to be that cold outside!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. That’s why I don’t buy salted. Always fresh.

Regular unsalted seem to mush way quicker in the summer sun.

Always salted for me, but I fish in plus 30 and you don't. :)

I buy salted then once thawed, i drain the tub on a paper towel (gets rid of moisture) then add my own salt / borax mixture into a ziploc along with the thawed minnows - mix up and let the salt do its thing - they last days unrefrigerated in summertime, months in winter! Ziploc goes into fridge or freezer when home.
Just be careful of any cuts or scrapes on your fingers - the salt hurts like a byotch
