Sorry in advance for a peanut gallery type post, but if it's only to get your wife more interested in joining you on the ice, if I may make a suggestion--- ditch the quad idea before you get too far into it. I'd get her a sled and start taking her into some backwoods stuff where quads get left behind.

Getting there is half or more, of the experience--- see Owls perched in trees and other wildlife, while enjoying the calm beauty in the woods (always nice and calm in the thick bush at ground level, even when it's windy on the lakes) and fish in true wilderness.

You also mentioned to me awhile back you were interested in Woods Lake Trout. Again, no place for a quad, unless you want to be relegated to fish community Laker spots that half of Manitoba has caught and released and posed for a hero shot with on Facebook. On those spots you are generally competing with 4 other people for one fish....lame. Trust me-- you can't get to the good spots by quad...ain't gonna happen unless you have tracks and a gerry can (tracked machines chug fuel).

Not bashing quad ownership if you use it in Spring/Summer/Fall, I'm just talking from experience as a guy that has a woman that loves the outdoors and she really appreciates it when I take her somewhere nice and scenic and not busy.....her interest level on Lk Wpg lasted in minutes and wanted to go home....there's not much to see, not much to experience, aside from either packing up and moving (most women don't want to do that shit) to find a pod of fish so there's action....or waiting for a bite that might not happen at all. Don't want to make assumptions about your better half, cuz I don't know her at all, but Woman are generally more interested in the experience of fishing in the wild outdoors, with her man, than they are about fishing in a crowd where they can't pee without some Randy Rando walking up to the tent and asking if you've had any nibbles......

With a pair of sleds, you could show your wife some amazing stuff and get on fishing you simply cannot get to via quads. On a sled, the ice fishing world is your oyster....on a quad, you're limited to only a few places....even the desolate and more interesting spots on Lk Wpg that have no one around for miles are inaccessible by quads with tires.

If you're also into the quad derbies and riding in Summer, then disregard my comments above....but if it's solely for ice fishing, you and especially your special lady (guaranteed) will get way more out of a pair of snowmobiles. Quads are fine on Lk Wpg, but I know from experience, Lake Winnipeg has very little to offer a lady that wants to be taken out to a winter wonderland.

Sleds are only good for 5 months of the year at most then all they do is take up floor space in the garage. A Quad will get the job done all 12 months

No doubt Harpz, if a guy has use for a quad year round, that's an easy choice, but if it's purely for ice fishing and nothing else, a quad really limits where you can go. You're basically signing up to be ok with never or rarely fishing the most beautiful serene waters our area has to offer......until March for that very brief window when there's no snow in the bush for sleds but safe ice for quads.

Just trying to offer advice on how a guy can show a lady some true winter wonderland stuff.

    Carry on. :)

I have both and owned tracks for my quad, tracks will get you anywhere but you need a heated shop to melt all the ice off the quad, also slush could be a huge problem if encountered, I sold my tracks after owning them for years. If I had to pick one for ice fishing it would be a snowmobile, that said if I could only keep one it would be the quad as I use it for hunting and the occasional joy ride.
