That’s all we were allowed to use when I guided. Much better for big fish.

Cam, that was before the super nets. No way that a cradle is better for big fish than a proper "pen" net that are super sized. In fact there is way more damage done to large fish in cradles and trying to get them into cradles. That and you need two people to do it properly (yes it can be done with one) which also puts the cradle operator in harms way of hooks way to close to ones face. Today, you simply net the fish and its free to just sit there less stressed and totally submerged. I don't think there is anybody nowadays that uses a cradle that pursue large fish for that reason alone. 15-20 years ago the thought process was different but anglers have developed better ways to lessen the stress and damage on fish and that is clearly a large pen net.

True. We didn’t have the super nets back then.

Not so much of a recommendation, but rather a review. I have the 40x44 Frabill Power Stow. I don’t have a big boat with lots of storage so I love the fact I can fold it up for travel. It’s massive, lots of room to use as a pen for fish, too.

Biggest complaint is the bag. It’s a rubberized netting that tangled and knots up super easily (at least in my experience). I’m of the understanding the Big Kahuna bag is a direct replacement, so I’ll probably swap it out at some point.

If you’re fishing solo you should have plenty of room in a 16’er for a Big Kahuna. Regardless, you need a big net on board, so get get a little practice in working a big net and a rod at the same time.
