So I went out with @Tinman on the weekend and he had gloves on all his rods. When he took them out they were rigged already. I always take my tackle off because of the way my rod storage is, but now I realize I wouldn't have to if I had the gloves on. It was an Ah Ha moment thanks to @Tinman. I never thought of them for that particular reason. So that being said what are the middle of the road ones worth and where can I get them?

I got some on Amazon recently and don't really like them. Poked a hole in one already which shouldn't happen IMO and one doesn't fit over one of the guides on one of my rods. do your research before ordering.

Casting rods and spinning rods have different size guides normally . The rod socks are usually specific to the type of rod and not one size fits all

Lake of the Woods Picnic Supply has them Gord. ;)

They're useful for cramming 2, even 3 rods in the rod locker tubes, (which is awesome when you wanna load up the boat with rods for an extended trip) other than that I find them a waste of time. Just my opinion. Lots of guys use and love em. They will help keep your blanks from damage, but the main idea is to protect the guides when sliding into a rod locker or having a pile of rods laying beside each other and not having them tangle (which is a battle).

Word to the wise, if you use them to put in the back of a pickup, be careful of the wind using the rod sock as wind sock.....b-bye rod. It happens if you leave them individually socked and not tethered....happened to me, d'oh!

I got a bunch of the old blue nylon (like thin tent material) ones Pro Am had (circa Boris) that have been sitting in a storage bin for 10 yrs or more. The newer mesh nylon style are way better tho. You can make em easily, like Ernie suggests. There's a youtube vid (or 10) on it

I used to also put the reel socks on every time....between that and unwrapping rods....seemed like forever to make that first cast, and I end up with tangled rods on the deck anyway...so I never saw the point unless I wanna cram a shit ton of rods in the locker. But otherwise, I leave baits tied on at all times Gord, without a sock, in the locker. I never cut it off unless I want to change it.

Sorry if I pissed on your picnic.

I don't have the fancy rod storage compartment, mine is a storage with two rod holders in it so I shove 5 rods in there and if I don't take the line and hook it the spool they get all tangled up.
