As the title says,,,looking for a lake trout rod. I would like something in the 7 to 8 foot range (casting). Lure weight of 1/2 to 3 oz or somewhere thereabouts or line weight in the 15 - 40 lb range. I am not a gear snob, but would prefer something higher end (not looking for an Ugly stick). If anybody has anything that fits the parameters let me know.

    Thanks,
    LLZ

Comes in 7' MH with fast tip, 10-25lbs line, 3/8oz - 1 1/4oz lures. I picked one up for bass but have used it for tossing baits up to 2oz for early season pike as well. Might be a little bit light for what you are wanting, but it is a very nice rod.

Thought it was sold. Plus I have a brand new 300 series baitcaster to use for my reel. Would only be interested in a rod.

I have a 8' Wright & Mcgill Skeet S-Curve flipping stick I'm thinking of selling.
8' heavy action, they say med fast taper but I'd say it's more fast. Hardly used, some marks on the painted blank from being in the boat.$70

Another one I have is a 7.5' Cabelas Mag Touch rod. I think it's MH action, med fast taper. I think it was listed as a finesse flipping rod. I'll have to check when I get home. $50

Won't be selling either for a few weeks though, gotta wait for the new rod in the mail and I'm outta the province for a couple weeks. If you haven't found anything by then let me know.

Liz, are you looking for a trolling rod, or for casting to shallower Trout up north?

If you are wanting a trolling rod, I highly recommend Cabela's Depthmaster Gold series stuff. Very good for the price (around $100 for rod and $100 for reel). This is what I have for a lead core setup and it's been very solid and the drag is smooth.

I am honestly looking for more of a jigging rod. That is the way we fish up here for lakers 90% of the time. If you chum,,,they will come mantra has been working well and we aren't big on changing what has been so successful.

Some guys like trolling and some guys like jigging for lakers,,,seems to be the way laker fishing works.

Have been drooling over the Loomis Pro Blue series recently but exchange and shipping kills a guy these days.

Because I only really only one rod for my laker fishing, I may end up biting the bullet and dumping some big$ for one high end rod, but still open to suggestions or buying quality used.

In NW Ontario, I troll in the am and start jigging around 11 once the metal bite tapers off.

Would be nice to be able to try out a rod first... I have bought many that after a bit I wasn't too crazy about , but was stuck with them ... I prefer to not buy too expensive now so it isn't such a big financial hit if I don't like it.. I have quite a few lower end rods that I just love..gl

Totally agree on trying one, or at least having it in hand before purchasing. Sadly,,,living in the north that just isn't possible so I am forced to do my research online and hope for the best most of the time.

I'm not sure living in Winnipeg would have helped much with this purchase because I have made some calls to some sports/fishing stores and they don't have what I am looking for in stock.

Well I blew the budget so to speak. IMX 956c FPR. Should be in my hands a week before my laker trip .

If anybody is in the market for a Loomis and can't find what they want locally, I would recommend American Legacy. They give you a $25 coupon (that actually works) for signing up to their newsletter (which u can cancel anytime after using the coupon) and ship free to Canada on any orders over $200 usd.

Other companies I looked at online wanted anywhere from $60 to $130 for shipping so a significant savings on a rod order.
