You guys made me feel a lot less selfish about this lol... I did a lot of this in bissett, like 5 or 6 days a month completely solo... Few techniques I honed my skills on doing that... loading and unloading the boat solo, boat control in big waves solo, boat control in big waves while fighting a fish solo...

We learn a lot from others every time we are on the water, we teach ourselves every time we're out solo...

Yes agreed fishing solo is great. Techniques I have tried when no one is watching are: the Tesla tickler, As scent and the CIL lure.

I love having the dance floor all to myself after I take out the other seat...but honestly, I have 4 buddies that are awesome co-anglers and I'd prefer to fish with one of them than solo. Also gets expensive going alone.

My 4 buddies have all the gear to match any technique I'll be doing, and the key is, they've all at least ran a boat on their own for years...that's key. Guys that have never ran their own boat don't quite seem to "get it".....and you get them making suggestions that I have to tippy-toe around as to why I don't think that should be the next move.....I feel kind of like I'm being bossy making the decisions while a relative novice is suggesting things that don't jive with where i want to fish.....I'd usually rather not have to explain myself--I'd rather just say- "Reel up, we're moving" ...and they reel up and stow their shit so it doesnt blow out.

While we're on the topic- one thing I cannot stand is a boat pig......the guy that brings a ton of crap with him and 20 mins into the day he has rods and gear banging into the Point-1 antennae and electronics ...tackle all over the floor,,,big bag of clothes in between the seats for me to trip on while I run to the bow to drop the electric.....grrrrrrr. Maddening.

My work truck is messy as fack, but my boat is to be kept organized or I get pissed

Agree in principle. I hate being the passenger, reason being it always feels messy. I (the passenger) is expected to have everything required for every type of fishing that day, multiple rods, 18 different types of tackle, winter and summer clothes, lunch etc. What I (the passenger) doesn't have is storage compartments, tackle trays, dry storage for clothes, rod locker etc etc.

Sometimes I enjoy being the passenger. That's when I choose to fish "simple". I kick back and observe the movements and boat handling of the pilot. Sometimes I'm amazed at how different he does things from how I do it. I adjust to his style and learn.

I feel like I'm a bad passenger in a boat for this reason right here.... hard to keep a small supply of everything that's needed in a possible day of fishing.

There's compartments for guest's gear......and I didnt ,mean to say "bringing too much stuff is annoying" ...it's how you keep said stuff.....strewn all over the boat like a 5yr old with a new Lego set= pissoff

Neatly out of the way and packed so nothing blows out of the boat is awesome of a guest.

Example----picking people up at a main dock to bring them to a boat-in cabin for the weekend. A couple that isnt too "outdoorsy" shows up at the dock with their groceries in plastic grocery bags (loose) .....clothes in garbage bags untied...an uncovered pillow...booze and mix in paper bags set to roll all over the boat while under way......that scenario is a pissoff to me.

....but none of this has anything to do with AEM's awesome content

AEM approves of the tangent this thread has gone off on.

Most of my soft-water a-ha! moments have occurred while fishing by myself. Less pressure to look for a quick fix, brain focused on fishing/learning rather than trying to please the other people fishing....glad to hear I'm not alone (in my enjoyment of being alone while fishing).

I'm betting Rob and Craig like the detour on this thread so it takes our minds off of asking them when the next release is. LOL.

I enjoy being a passenger if I'm with someone that knows how to fish. I just sit back and try and take in as much as possible and ask a couple questions on why or what their reasoning is for doing certain things. Great way to learn IMO. I still like being the captain though, even if I am a novice fisherman, as the rewards feel great when your thoughts/ideas put you on fish. I fish with my wife or my son most times so the pressure isn't huge to be on fish, they are both pretty easygoing. My neighbor however doesn't appreciate all I try to do to put us on fish and it gets to me after awhile.

I enjoy fishing alone, for the same reasons you guys list, primarily about the freedom to learn new things with no pressure of playing host/guide. However, it's happened more than once where I'd given my best effort to find fish, surmise there's none there, only to have the partner catch a few from the back of the boat, using something I'd not thought to use

I fish solo 75 % of the time now. If one of my few buddies that are serious about fishing can't make it I'll usually just go myself. I have started to meet a few new people that are serious about fishing, but still tough to make schedules work more often than not.

Gone are the days of taking friends that only fish a couple times a year and need babysitting just to have company. My addiction seems to get worse every year and just being on the water doesn't scratch the itch anymore, success/learning has to be part of it. Slow days still happen, but are less frequent when I can do my own thing without having to explain what the next move is all about.

Early this spring when most other lakes were still locked up good, Heart Lake was open. So we mapped it. :)

It's usually possible to get the under the bridge.....sometimes it just requires loading the boat with rocks, or taking the plug out for 15-20 minutes first. ;)

We are shooting for upgrade availability and launch of our 2017 chips for late February or early March.....chipping away at it. There will be a couple upgrade events at local retailers.
