You could do the South section of the Red River..... only the first 25 yards from shore I can't cast it much further than that. :smirk:

I've done some sonar logs of the Red. All the condoms and floating turds make proper depth readings impossible. If you're mapping bottom composition, neither Insight Genesis or Autochart will properly display fecal matter so the end product isn't of much use. :D

Maybe you could get some help from some at cost subcontractors for North Cross Bay...I may know 1 or 2;)

We are putting the final touches on the 2017 maps and wanted to quickly run by potential change in how we present our data with people currently running our maps.

It relates to minor contour labels, and the balance between information and clutter on the screen.

Currently what you get with AEM: zoomed way out, you see our base map which shows outlines of lakes, islands, highways, trails, roads.

Zoom in a little bit further on the lakes we have mapped and general lay of the land (water) is revealed via chromatic colour shading. Highways and roads are still depicted. This level of zoom is ideal for scouting in terms of generalities....(e.g. shallow bays might draw fish in the spring) on bodies of water you have no experience on.

    shot008.png

Zoom in some more and depths of the major contours are revealed. Interval is based on the depth of the lake...again, we are trying to balance information content with screen clutter. With our palette, you always know deep versus shallow in a relative sense, but obviously the depths associated with contours give you much needed info.

    shot016.png

Zoom in even further, and minor contours are revealed. So in the case of Falcon Lake, we have used a 5' major contour (labeled) and 1' minor contours (unlabeled).

    shot017.png

What we are toying with is adding labels for minor contours that display only when you zoom in even further. Occasionally, these might help you differentiate between a subtle dip or a subtle rise., especially when you are zoomed in quite far...but they also clutter the screen a little bit.

    shot018.png

What do people think regarding the value of minor contour labels at high-zoom? Is this something you'd like for 2017?

I like the idea of minor contour labels at high zoom and would definitely use them. What about having an option with the maps to display 1' contours or not similar to the different Navionics and Navionics + display options?

Same, love the idea of minor contour labels. If you are zooming way in that is the "clutter" I am looking for.

Might be able to provide options for that type of feature on HDS/Elite-Ti units....I think. That being said we want our maps to be as user friendly as possible (plug and play if you will), and I think the only way we could make a selection option work would be to have minor contour labels enabled by default.....so if most people DID NOT want them, I would be inclined to not put them in. 4 out of 4 responses so far want it though. :)

I've really gotten used to following THE contour line I want, unlabelled, I can only count to five, so it's been great, but if i didn't have to count, it would be a benefit :)

I still get excited looking at the AEM maps, especially on the water.

Indian Bay Shoal....game changer doesnt even begin to describe...what an awesome addition! Looking at how much of Shoal you guys have done since 2015---Wow! That's a huge chunk of good fishing there. My buddy and I slayed the Smallies last Fall without leaving the mapped AEM water. When I first got the chip, maybe 15% of my day would be high quality AEM mapping, 35% unmapped, and 50% Navionics.....this has absolutely changed where I fish on Shoal. It's like going from being totally blind to obtaining X-ray vision....oh yeah...AEM will make you fricken Superman (I realize I'm a dork, and I'm OK with it)

The amount of new content to keep it fresh that you guys are adding is astounding. Keep it up, please and thank you!

My only suggestion will be Black Sturgeon completion....but I am not convinced that will sell you more chips, but maybe.... All I know is the Navionics Hot Maps map is very vague and lacking detail in a serious way. Why would I want that map...? Whitefish in Winter.....that's it yeeeeeah

1' contour intervals based on real bathymetric data is boner worthy. Increasing detail as the zoom level goes up is simple and intuitive IMO. I can't wait for open water...
