Heard that as well and I always assumed it was because they spend so much time in the shallows on the Assiniboine. But that's good to know!

Time to petition the city to actually open up the Maple Grove launch....

Don't think they ever opened the Buchanan Marine launch on Higgins last year either. If memory serves me correct the docks sat up in the park there all year. Given municipal cutbacks this summer, I'm actually a little worried about docks going in.

The Higgins launch is always barricaded. Not that I’d leave a vehicle in that parking lot day or night.

Launched there a few years ago...came off the water just before dark. Let's just say I didn't hang around to cover the boat and put everything away properly, haha.

maybe we can get out for that cat yet Mike!!!

I will for sure be spending some time on this stretch of river this summer if time permits!!! Lots of big blow downs along the banks that would be super fun to pull cats out of!!!

Only if they change social distancing from 6 feet, to 6 inches...I want a Patty hug you motor-boatin' son of a bitch!

As far as the flood gates and danger, as it pertains to the map--- I had not considered that. I knew it was dangerous at times but had wondered how far below the surface the gates sat. Thanks for clarifying, and good call if it's possible to hit the gates

Patty, maybe you could come down my way one day and show off your river rat skills in that section....really really sucks there's no good map,but the river is quite different down south, and does hold fish. ......did I mention Sturgeon?

Are there any decontamination stations on the Red else than in Selkirk park?

For those of you on Facebook....check this out:

For those not, the link is to a video announcing the release of the Whitemud River. Our coverage extends ~17.5 river kilometers from the mouth, almost as far as the town of Westbourne.

Release date has been set - May 4!

Upgrades ordered via our website will ship on this day, same with new chip orders. Also, Anchor Marine will be loaded with chips for upgrades - if you are in Winnipeg (or can travel to Winnipeg), stopping by to swap out your chip is likely the best upgrade option. Alternatively, you can have a 2020 chip delivered to your door if you order via our website. We have made some changes to this program since last year - long story short, we no longer ask our customers to mail back there current chip. Rather, we need you to DESTROY it and email us photo documentation that it is destroyed prior to qualifying for an upgrade. This saves you some money on shipping. Please see our website http://www.anglersedgemapping.com/upgrades.html for complete details on this. We had several US based customers use this program over the winter, and it worked really well. So considered it fully implemented now!

One thing to note re: upgrades at Anchor - due to COVID-19 considerations, please call ahead! @EYEhigh89 will deal with serial numbers over the phone, and when you arrive he will will be ready for a quick swap out, ensuring that contact is limited as much as possible. The door will be locked when you arrive, but just knock and someone will let you in.

It is coming...not quite done processing it yet actually. As crazy as it sounds, that little lake has a ridiculous amount of intricacy due to a meandering river channel. Didn't expect that at all when we started surveying it...

That's the kinda stuff I find fascinating with hydrography. When the bottom tells a story.
