    Burbot can be found in southern (i.e. Nopiming and Whiteshell) waters also. In addition to pike and perch, they may have the greatest distribution of any fish in Manitoba. Under-utilized, they are a perfect specie for table fare. We would target them in March and April at dusk or at night. The full moon dates helped in tying and unhooking. We did keep a good number as it was a once or twice a year deal. When fishing deeper than 35', don't even consider releasing them. The bladder comes up distended in the mouth. So don't angle for them in the deeper waters as live release will be impossible. But if you are after table fare...go for it. Furthermore, as this post suggests, April fishing means Lake Trout waters. The mixed bag is nice. I have not bothered trying the Manitoba Great Lakes for Burbot at dusk. The few I have caught are much larger than the Eastern lakes. But for scenery and variety, I'll give the big lakes a pass. The fishing can be so hot as to when one is trying to find the bottom with (usually) a jig, a hit occurs before you've convinced yourself that the bottom has been found. The tell-tale "boingy-boingy" fight signals an up and coming 'bot. Elegant fish when viewed underwater.

    Not sure if @chrism filled this cabin yet, but by my count there's 15+ CFF members headed that way next weekend. 19" of snow in the last 2 weeks and 0°C across the board for next weekend should make an epic adventure. Just got to figure out if I have room for my extension...
