So I started to mount this on my sled tonight but I have a couple questions. I originally intended to use it just for mapping but right after I bought an ice ducer came up for sale on kijiji so I picked it up. So now I'm thinking of using it as a flasher as well. First question is what do the guys that are using these for flashers doing to mount them on their sleds/quads and still keeping them portable? Do you just position it in your lap until yu get to the spot? The other problem I'm running into is I want to put in on the bow of the boat in the summer but I don't want to have to move the base over everytime. Is it possible to buy another base for these? I did a quick search and didn't find anything yet.

For what your doing, Ram mount, get a couple extra mounting balls and attach them to your sled, bow and whatever you plan yo use at the ice hole. Just unscrew and moce unit from ball to ball.

Ok thanks guys. I was kind've thinking the same thing about using ram mounts but what do you guys do with the battery? I want to have one securely mounted in the sled for travel. Once I get to the spot I would have to take out the battery or at the least take out the power cable and have a 2nd battery in some kind of portable unit that I make. Probably easier to have another power cable I guess huh? I don't want to buy a 3rd cable for the boat. any ideas?

    BGF is bang in again
    Thats the one I use.
Only one power cable required. Just plug into the various fused sources.

Can't find those 2 ways in red and black. Not too difficult to wire it up if one follows the directions I gave.

I ordered a bunch in bulk on Amazon last year. Worked out to less than $1 a piece.

But all jokes on colour aside....such a simple item, but makes managing electrical connections so much easier once you standardize everything...

I know they are available out there.....locally can't seem to find them in red/black or even red/white. I know the first few times I used them it's tough to get your head around ignoring the colors!

Others here and myself have been using our LX7 for open water and it does work good. This year (was supposed to be last year) I am going to use my Elite 7 on the ice, firstly for navigation with AEM and then as a flasher. So my design will be in the form of a stand alone flasher that is mounted (stored) behind the windshield of my sled. Therefore I can use it as my navigator and quickly remove it and use it for a flasher. I may need to carry a second battery which is NBD. I have a crude prototype made for testing and if I like the results will refine it for the long term.

When you figure out how you're doing it Dave show some pics. I may have to steal your design instead of inventing my own, lol. ;) I am planning on having 2 batteries as I just picked one up fro Ernie that I will be using in the sled.

Just a heads up for the guys looking for the 2 way flat plugs. $2.50 at metro for them, red/white wires.

Yea Metro's prices on trailer lights and wiring absolutely blow PA's outta the water.

Replaced some marker lights on the boat trailer this year with some LED penny lights. $10 I think at PA and $3 at metro.

You guys seem set on the two pin trailer style, which will work - but for a few bucks more I would recommend 2 pin Deutsch connectors. These are way easier to connect and disconnect (especially in the cold although you will probably need to take your gloves off), water-tight, and give you an audible "click" when the connector is properly connected. You can get a kit of them on eBay including pins/sockets and the wedges that go with the connectors. The worst part is soldering into their contacts if you don't have the proprietary crimping tool, but the end result is much more user friendly. I have the two pin female on the end of a Lowrance power cord with male two pins at stern and bow of boat, would work just as well on the sled or on a mobile "flasher" pack.
