Nope!!! Doesn't make much difference if you weld properly (spray vs short circuit), but if stick was available I probably would have done some root welds with the stick...

Anyways, back to our scheduled HDS talk lol

@Tony I like you and I have a key. :) Before reading this I was going to buy one for the new addition to the Tundra. But duh I can make shiny things! BUT does the no gear teeth things.... on the flat metal make a difference?

My thoughts exactly Mike re: “knurled” teeth features on the stock gimbal brackets, I would worry that without those the unit might might slip in some scenarios (ie on sled/quad where g loading will be high). Others with experience with homemade mounts will be able to better answer that question.

No issues at all guys. At least not for ice fishing. On the boat would be a whole different story as its a lot rougher.

I would just epoxy a thin rubber washer on either side of the aluminum where the notched part of the Lowrance mounts to. Should provide enough resistance against the teeth to keep it solid.

No just needs a touch more tightness for friction, it's actually kinda nicer lol

I was thinking of just adding some kind of friction tape but what @Coward, @Ernie, and @Patty says works too. I need it for this weekend @Mike ;) and I have a Jets game tomorrow. LOL. Serioulsy I could do the wood thing for this weekend. :)

For a washer I cut a piece from a margarine container lid. Worked perfect.
