Ford Explorer isn't that high off the ground and I don't always have time or want to clear all roads on my land after a snowstorm. Also got roadside assistance, but have waited for hours in -30C weather waiting for someone to show up when they're busy. Highways and roads in Winnipeg are fine with the winter tires most of the time. Rural roads, and especially, private ones can be more of a challenge.

Ya, I dunno if there is a worse winter commute than mine. Sun can be shining bright and I'm driving with 5 yards visibility on a windy day....and EVERY day is windy once you get south of that invisible line....

I am flippy flopping between just sucking it up and buying a new truck and getting a little shitbox 4-banger while running my old 'rado further into the dirt.....I dunno how much savings there'll be realistically. In Winter, I need 4wd 3 days out of 5, and that's where the fuel economy goes right out the tailpipe anyhow.

Blower fan blew in Lundmania boat parade fml....old man Stearns was too hot from sitting in a seat throwing candy to kids so it was cranked on 5 while idling for an hour

What's wrong with those Ecotec motors @Patty ? Known issues?

My buddy has a 2012 eco boost his issues have been timing chain and turbos, the timing chain replacement alone was over $4000, get the 5.0 it’s a great motor.

@Mike B., the 2.4 ecotec dare known for timing chain issues and excessive oil consumption issues... GM has multiple TSB on the oil consumption issue but no “recall” so the repairs are on owners dime... good news is the timing chain is not a huge job if you have a hoist, and the oil consumption issue is fixed with an engine rebuild...

@PeteK how you liking the Colorado so far???

Thanks for the intel @Patty . I'm really leaning toward shopping for a truck...maybe even start tonight. Sick of that old thing going into Lube King every month. They're awesome there, unreal actually...I just am tired of an old rusty beast costing me as much as payments on brand new....especially when that '04 is bound to leave me stranded somewhere in the next couple yrs. Might as well bite the bullet and lock into payments already. ....again.

That's life for the blue collar man these days--- debt, if you wanna have anything.

Like I said I love my baby diesel.
    8.8L/100 highway
    13L/100 city
    11L/100 combined

As a comparison my 09 Sierra did 15L/100 highway and even worse in the city

That’s in a crew cab ram with 300-500lbs of tools in the box daily.

Baby diesels must be working because everyone has one now.

Took the combo for a highway test the other day and it feels fine, didn't overheat, didn't throw the rods out, didn't break in half, did it have the same pulling power as my 3/4 ton,no,but it can handle the job just fine if I need it,the 3/4 still gets the nod for any long pulls.

I had a 96 Park Avenue, a 2000 LeSabre and am currently driving a 2007 Bucik Lucerne. All had the 3.8L motor.
The LeSabre had 160k on it when the motor went (con rod) but the 96 Park Avenue had 250k when the front end went and I didn't want to throw money into it. The Park avenue got better mileage than the LeSabre but the Lucerne gets the best gas mileage...well over 30 mpg on the highway in summer.
I bought the Lucerne with 74k on it and it has about 111k now and is a nice reliable vehicle.
I think the 2000 LeSabre's motor going early is not normal and they usually last much longer. I now have a parts car for my Lucerne...
