Lol, that's what I thought at first too. Once I figured it out I was thinking of picking one up because they were so cheap.

Too slow! I really wanted to network one of the hds5 with my current hds10 at the tiller command post. Hopefully I'll be quicker on the draw for future units. Craig, would it be a noticeable upgrade going from the lss1 to structurescan hd / lss2? Also could an hds10 gen 1 be compatible?

There is some debate that the lss-1 transducers are better than the 2's. compatibility I think you need the structurescan box but not 100% sure

Lss-1 versus LSS-2 came up a week or so ago on another thread, and I gave my best recollection of why I decided LSS-2 was preferable over LSS-1 at the time both were available....but I don't have a good enough memory to try to summarize with confidence. So I will defer to FishTec, and this lengthy thread based on his evolving review (over time). I just skimmed the first page....and at least I am not crazy....there was considerable difference in what you got with the initial software release for the LSS-2 (455 kHz) relative to what you get now (455 kHz and 800 kHz).

    http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/412250-structurescan-hd-lss-2-first-impressions.html

    Hope that helps @Hassett

Sorry guys, I'll let you know if anyone doesn't pick up the ones spoken for.

I thought first post was the a little hard to follow, took a bit to understand what he was saying. Finally realized he never had the new HD module for the LSS2. He is only comparing the transducers on the original structure scan box.

Browsed the old thread....on page 6.

    This is what FishTec posted....

My conclusion to this point is as follows:-

    HDS Gen1 with LSS-1 and LSS-1 transducer:
    Operation 3/5
    DownScan 5/5
    SideScan 3/5
    StructureMap 0/5 (none)

    HDS Gen1 with LSS-1 and LSS-HD transducer:
    Operation 3/5
    DownScan 3/5
    SideScan 4/5
    StructureMap 0/5 (none)

    HDS Gen2 with LSS-1 and LSS-1 transducer:
    Operation 5/5
    DownScan 5/5

    SideScan 3/5
    StructureMap 3/5

    HDS Gen2 with LSS-1 and LSS-HD transducer:
    Operation 5/5
    DownScan 3/5
    SideScan 4/5
    StructureMap 4/5

    HDS Gen2 with LSS-HD and LSS-HD transducer:
    Operation 5/5
    DownScan 4/5
    SideScan 5/5
    StructureMap 5/5

    Summary:-

If you are NOT a current HDS/LSS owner, and you are buying a Gen2 with LSS-HD, you are getting a good all round system.

If you are a current HDS/LSS-1 owner, and DownScan is your #1 priority, then there is no need to change anything, unless you want a unit with faster operation.

If you are a current HDS/LSS-1 owner, and are thinking of upgrading to Gen2 with StructureMap, and DownScan is NOT your #1 priority, then replacing JUST the transducer would be your best option.

If you are either planning on upgrading to, or currently own a Gen2 with LSS-1, and SideScan is just as important to you as DownScan, you will need to ADD a LSS-HD (full system) to your current system. You will require a Network Expansion Port to make changing over from one LSS to the other by simply flipping a switch.

    The Result:-
    Operation 5/5
    DownScan 5/5
    SideScan 5/5
    StructureMap 5/5

    Great info Craig! Thank you!

Ernie, you have an HDS 12 Gen2Touch....so you definitely have StructureScan HD (it is built in to that unit). Not sure about your ducer....

Exact reason I went with the HDS 8 Gen2 and the HD box and LSS2 back then. Seems like ages ago now.

    HDS Gen2 with LSS-HD and LSS-HD transducer:
    Operation 5/5
    DownScan 4/5
    SideScan 5/5
    StructureMap 5/5

@Inmate if you have the transducer your plug in and play. No extra box required.

FishTec's post was from 2012....so it kinda was ages ago.

    @Inmate , I honestly can't remember who I've sold what to...haha. But if you have an LSS-2 in your possession.....what @Bryan said.

Ok so the LSS-2 is HD. Those aren't 2 separate things?

    LSS2 is the transducer
Structure ScanHD is the box. Which is now built into your unit and Gen3s.

Back in 2012 for the non touch Gen2 it was a separate box.
