Generally if there's even the slighted chance of rain while my boat is moored the cover goes on.

You got a heck of a boat with your Lund....as I think I told you before, the original owner wishes he never sold it...

That won't last long. That will be show room mint guaranteed.

Holy smokes, I'm kinda shocked how anal so many are with covering at the dock. I take good care of my stuff, but the biggest bonus to having my boat in the water tied to the dock is I can walk down with nothing but my key, get in and go. I also get fricken irritated with anything that wastes time in the morning on a fishing trip.

If I'm at the cabin where the boat comes out after every session, it gets covered no matter what, every time.

To keep a mint looking boat long term the key is to cover in the day when not in use. Obviously if your on a fishing trip your fishing everyday so it won’t be covered during the day but that’s when the real damage gets done by the destructive suns rays that beat the shit out of everything. Certain times of the year you have horrible shit that comes off the trees like pine pollen. I will cover my boat as much as I can during these times night or day because I like a clean boat and don’t want to vacuum it all the time. Also depends on what kind of surroundings are around the dock. I still use my travel cover at the dock which is a pain to put on but can take it off in about 30 seconds. I’m going to get a bungy type tarp made up that is just a friction fit that will go on super effortless. My boat has been in the water at the dock since June. Won’t come out until nov when it gets trailered to Minaki for some rapid running musky fun.
Anybody getting into the dock repair/building business this spring in cottage country? You will make a fortune for probably two years if you do. Going to be complete devestation for many after this winter.

Absolutely. The sun is the most damaging thing overall, and also things like tree sap/leaves/pollen you mentioned.

The back deck, grey carpeted corners, where my cover doesn't protect/cover, are black from the sun. It's kinda strange to me. I'd think the sun would bleach those corners damn near white, but instead they're black. I've cleaned and pressure washed those black corners (they're small) and it does come off to some degree, so I'm thinking it might be some sort of mold or moss/lichen or who knows what kind of organism?

On a trip, no cover, but in your situation with boat in water all season, I'd cover it when I'm not there for sure. To keep clean and protected and also to shed water off. Bilges are great, but I wouldn't sleep knowing they can and do fail. I think even with a beautifully covered dock like Tony Shirley's I'd prob still put a cover on when I'm not there.

Speaking of keeping a boat clean, tis the season to be extra anal about not having any crumbs or food bits in there. Rented a cabin on Thompson Island a few yrs ago, the area was badly infested with mice, as lots of islands are, and I made a dumb mistake and left a granola bar in the boat.... trailered home and put a trap in there with peanut butter. Next morning yielded a gorgeous Kangaroo Mouse pelt that I made a fur cock warmer out of, to give to @Tony for a Christmas present, so his wee peepee stays warm when he puts his boat cover on at the dock and it's plus 12.:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

That's for saying you were gonna shit in my boat last year ;)

    Lol!

Cam, wouldn't your ancestry demand a beaver, fox or Pine Martin pelt...? ...at least a well-fed rat? :flushed:

@Tony said the Kanga Mouse keeps falling off cuz it's too loose, so now I have to trap a field mouse....

That's for saying you were gonna shit on my minnows ;)

...hmmmm, that's a disgustingly good point....

Anyone that didn't get in on the minnow order, I've got some for sale. $5 premium cost, as they come with corn for Carp fishing.
