Lithium would be nice but definitely not on the list for now. Way more important things to spend that extra money on over lithium batteries if the cost was closer to lead acid I'd be all over it

@Little Spoon $462 for 3 12 volt deep cycle GR31. a good 3 or 4 bank 10 amp/bank charger will run ya about the same. good charger will out live the batteries.

batteries should last 3 years before you notice a strong day at a place like hecla youd be dragging down.. and you might get lucky and last you 6 years.

the cost of lithium is only worth it if A) you can afford it. B) you need the power.
majority of weekenders dont need the power. and now over buy, and over power. and of course it works awesome, but id drive a lambo to work if money wasnt any question and tell everyone i got the fastest car. apples to needs and wants.
there is no doubt for some it is the way to go for gauranteed piece of mind knowing you will not have a dead trolling motor at the end of the day.

(the chargers some of those companies sell are pure junk. there is a reason they are 1/10th the price of a good Dual Pro, or Noco)

Yeah sadly what isn’t expensive in this sport - its crazy.
    But gotta pay to play.

Spoon, start saving if you want Lithiums, in meantine run down what you have battery wise till they dont work.
    Then consider the lithiums.

I’m surprised nobody has asked this so my question is why go 36v? 24v is fine for your boat. Surprised nobody mentioned that or I missed it. Smart of you to disregard lithium at this time. Listen to Green’s advice. If you stick with 24 v here is what that means:
    - keep your existing charger and setup, save $800
    - save $350 on the 36v upgrade if getting a Terrova for example
    -save $160 on another battery
-save time as it’s plug and play with your existing set up.
Then if for some strange reason you decide to go lithium in the future to save weight you can get all the juice you want for the 24v so you will never run out. You’re going to get out what? Once a weekend if you’re lucky and life doesn’t get in the way. Maybe get 16 days on the water? You’re not going to catch more fish with a 36v so take the savings and buy another graph or boat accessory. This sport is ridiculously expensive, you can go down the spending rabbit hole forever and never keep up with the tech. Spend wisely on things that will put more fish in the boat . Now I’m sure there will be a response like “he needs the power to sit in the current at hecla” well that maybe true but a $40 anchor also works if by a very slim chance on one of your 16 days that you choose to sit there on spot lock on speed 9 for 6 hours. OPEC just cut oil production, could be another $2/litre summer…… or a nuclear war haha

@Neil nailed it - Spoon, I don’t think your boat is much bigger than mine, or @Patty ’s for that matter…My 24V has held me steadily in some pretty hairy conditions at Hecla in wind and current. Your call if you do want to go to 36v obviously, but I’m quite sure a 24V setup would not be an issue on your boat.

Not looking forward to my fuel bills again this summer if that’s the case, Neil, ha!

I am in complete agreement that spoon likely should be sticking with SLA or AGM batteries, I don’t think his use will justify the cost and weight savings anytime soon…

as for 24 vs 36, I think power is like shaft length, get the most you can afford, but for spoon in particular, 24v and a Bruce anchor should cover 99% of situations…

@Little Spoon - While lithiums are great and I’m sure a 36 V is nice to have, I think it’s an expensive mistake to try to have it all now. You just got your boat late last season. A very large boat for what is essentially your first boat too. There’s nothing wrong with outfitting and upgrading your kit over time.

I’m as guilty as anyone with electronics upgrades. I built my setup over years though. Tech is always improving too, it makes sense sometimes to wait and maybe score a deal on used kit. Get some serious time on the water, then identify needs vs wants.

You’ll save a lot of money by sticking with 24 V and conventional or AGM deep cycles vs lithium.

The way I look at it is I'd rather have the power to fish how I want/ where I want. After talking to people in similar sized rigs. Like mine 36 v is the way to go. I'm hoping to get out 2-3 times a week this summer even if it's just a evening for cats. I'd rather get my boat set up properly and not be trolling motor shopping in a year again. I prefer to fish as mobile as I possibly can usually unless on fish. I'm also not afraid to go fish in 3-4 footers as the lithium thing that's definitely in the future but dosent currently make sense when I could be adding another graph or such for that price. Since I don't have a kicker I would be using the trolling motor for pulling cranks and such as well. Slowest I've seen my rig while trolling against the current was 2.7

Found this picture of the battery storage definitely would have to put a battery else where as those are only group 24s if iirc

You’ve got more room than you’ll know what to do with up there, Spoon.
